Note: This blog is part of a series sharing the teachings of the Atisha's Lojong Root Verses on Training the Mind as shared by Jetsumna Tenzin Palmo in London May 28 & 29, 2016. These are not transcriptions of the lectures, rather a collection of her thoughts sewn together.
3. The Supreme great quality is altruism
Its very important that these practices open our hearts which will develop a mind that wishes to benefit others.
Jetsumna jokes that everyone in Asia likes their mothers so its easy to use the mother’s love and our gratitude for our mother as examples of the kind of unconditional kindness and warmth we are cultivating. Remembering that without our mothers we would not be here, we extend this immense gratitude to all human beings.
We are not just practicing to make ourselves feel better. We are truly practicing for the benefit of all human beings. If we are graced with the keys to leave the prison of samsara, we use those keys to let everyone else out too.
