The Generosity of India

There is a huge amount of fear right now about what unsophisticatedly gets referred to as “the refugee situation.”  More specifically, the mass movement of human beings just like you and me far away from home into foreign lands with a hope of safety for themselves and families.

Jetsumna shared how grateful the the Dali Lama has always been to India for welcoming the Tibetan refuges since the 1950s.  China, Tibet’s greatest enemy, shares a massive border with India.  To accept the refuges was a huge risk. India gave the Tibetans land, freedom to set their own schools, government, hospitals and such. With the exception of Nepal, no other Buddhist countries were willing, not even Bhutan.  India was open hearted and handed and was such a poor country itself!

Without this generosity, the teachings we now have access to today would have been lost.
