Habits of Good Heart

  • Sun and Moon Yoga Studio 3811 Lee Highway Arlington, VA, 22207 United States (map)

Habits form with or without us and our brains do not know the difference between the good ones and the less good ones.  With the tool of self awareness, we will get to know the inner workings of our heart more intimately and how to train them with our best interests in mind. Mostly meditation practices, some asana and discussion.

Friday Evening | 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Towards an Understanding of Habit

Together, let’s lay the groundwork for our investigations.  We will review the latest research and findings on habit and map with the teachings of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. We will identify our own list of habits we would like to cultivate and prune back.  We will weave discussion, easy asana and Loving-kindness meditations.

Saturday Early Afternoon | 12:30pm - 3:00pm
What Does the Heart Really Want?

According to the sages, our hearts seek to know that we are simultaneously connected and free.  Lets not just accept this, lets find out if it’s really true for each of us.  We will play with inspiring the heart and holding her safe through asana, breath, simple mantra and Compassion meditations.  Our interval training is designed to develop a more intimate relationship with our own hearts’ desires.

Saturday Late Afternoon | 3:30pm - 6:00pm
The Heart’s Cues

How do we know what’s right for our hearts in each moment? Building on our own research, we will develop our own personal checklists to more accurately asses the consequences of our actions, speech and thought.  We will indulge in a long slow yin style practice with an emphasis on unwinding the knots of the heart. We will continue to experiment with Compassion meditations.

Sunday Early Afternoon | 12:30pm - 3:30pm
Flowing Open Heart

On our last morning, we turn our attention directly at our self cherishing nature that causes all our troubles.  After a groovy relaxing asana session, we will boldly and courageously conclude with the practice of Giving and Receiving (Tonglen) Meditation.
